Wine Corkscrew - Blacksmith Hand Forged
Howdy. What better way to open that fancy wine bottle than with a giant hunk of hand forged steel, right?
This corkscrew handle begins as a length of square stock which is cuts to size. A groove is cut ¼” from the end, it is heated, and then twisted 22.5 degrees. The corkscrew itself started life years ago as super strong spring coil (like you might see on a garage door). It is salvaged it, heated it, unwound, and spiraled by hand around a thin metal rod, before welding and riveting it to the handle. Finally, it is cleaned and a wax coat applied.
On your next date, you just may talk more about the corkscrew than the wine itself.
