The sprout stand started as a pottery tea bowl. Pottery is a fun art form because it allows you to explore shapes and curves in three dimensions on the wheel. There was a particular curve I became obsessed with for a while in ceramics and I liked it so much I turned it into a music stand design. Pottery has always helped me loosen up with art and play around with different forms as you usually make pieces in series (for instance of set of 5 similar mugs). Metal, meanwhile can be a very rigid form, taking a great deal of heat and pressure before the metal begins to take shape. As such, you have less room to 'play around' during the creation of a piece, but rather work towards a premade template. With this stand, however, I tried to translate that playfulness into the design, thus the slightly non-symmetrical top and loose scrolls or 'sprouts' on either end of the face.
